Cutting the cord to cable can be the first step get your finances in order. Why pay $100 or more a month for limited programming and bad customer service. Use the money that you save on cable for things that you really want or may need.

If you’re one of the people still hanging onto outdated cable TV service, it’s time to let go. Cut the cord and save upwards of $1,000 per year. With so many different options available, you won’t be sacrificing much on content or quality.

Why Cut the cable Cord?

  • Lower monthly costs: You don’t have to pay an expensive cable TV bill, or be locked into satellite TV contracts. With IPTV services, you can stream live channels for as little as $14.99 a month.
  • Access more content: The cable and satellite providers only offer certain channels, in other words, they will not offer content that is not in high demand for your area.
  • Lower equipment costs: Although you need to pay for a media player, and/or an antenna to receive the channels, this is a very low, one time cost, compared to hundreds of dollars a year with cable/satellite box rental.

What Do You Need to Cut the Cord?

  • Antenna: An antenna is the best way to receive channels from your local market. For example, you can connect an antenna to your TV and receive programs from major networks. (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, PBS).
  • Streaming: If you have a media player and high speed internet, you can easily stream Smart Streams. For instance, Amazon Fire TV or Fire Stick, Formuler Z7+Apple TV, etc.
  • Antenna and Streaming: This is the best way to cut the cord, most importantly, you can access local channels without paying a fee, and also stream additional premium content via the internet.

Options for Cord Cutters

When the cut the cable cord trend started, TV viewing options were limited. However, today there are many streaming services available. Not to mention, some of the services are providing more content than any cable or satellite ever has. Our personal favorites are Mystic TV, Vader Streams and Beast TV. Especially if you love sports, movies and cable news programs.

How to choose an IPTV service?

The best advice is always to do your own research. You could start with Google or another search engine, or an IPTV forum to research the product that you are interested in. The more information that you have about the provider or service that you want – the more prepared you will be to cut the cable cord.

IPTV has come a long way since it’s start around 1995. However, there are a lot of variables that can affect it’s performance.

  1. The Source: IPTV channels come from many different sources, and route through different servers that are based in different locations.
  2. The Provider: A source is only as good as the provider, and their ability to integrate, balance and deliver content to the end users.
  3. Your Internet: To stream successfully, you need good internet speed. 20 to 40 Mbps, per stream is the standard. Some internet companies may throttle or block IPTV connections. If the provider has hundreds of customers, the service is probably good, you may need a VPN to Stream.
  4. Your Router: Whether your considering IPTV or not, investing in a quality router is a necessity for anyone with internet service. Wireless may seem more convenient to use, but don’t mistake that for stability. Try both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, however, hardwired is the way to go.
  5. Your Device: This is where most people make a mistake! NEVER buy the cheapest device that you find online and expect it to perform while streaming high definition shows and movies – Invest in a Formuler, Nvidia, or even a FireTV.
  6. Most Importantly, you need great customer service and support! It’s important to be able to reach someone and actually get an answer.

What features are important?

  • Channel Selection: Stay away from providers that offer 10,000+ channels. Although it seems like a great deal, this is not feasible to maintain. You will never watch more than two or three hundred of the channels, most will be in different languages, and the service will likely be terrible.
  • Video on Demand: Be weary of providers that advertise 8,000+ movies. Undoubtedly, they will not be able to monitor or maintain this collection.
  • SD & HD Options: If you choose a provider that only offers HD or FHD channels, it’s likely that you will have buffering issues. IPTV is not Netflix or Hulu, most of the FHD streams will bottleneck or be throttled by your internet provider. Look for a service that offers high and low bandwidth channels, like Mystic TV or Smart Streams.
  • Service & Support: Often, this is overlooked at the time of purchase. However, this is an important feature to have from your provider. Unless you are an experienced streamer, or a technical guru.. You will need support at some point during the term of your subscription.
  • Privacy Concerns: This may be hard to establish in the beginning, but is still an important feature to consider when signing up. It’s easy to find an established reseller, look for a well built website with an easy order process, multiple payment options and setup guides.

Cut the cable cord

By the end of the year, an estimated 4.7 million American households that previously paid for TV will have cut the cable cord, or about 4.7 percent of all subscribers, up from about 3.74 million in 2012, according to a recent report by the Convergence Consulting Group, a Toronto-based firm.
